The Blue Countdown

Title: The Blue Countdown

Materials: Wax, thermochromic pigment, electric ceramic heater

The Blue Countdown is a poignant representation of the devastating effects of rising temperatures on the Arctic. The artwork depicts polar bears made of wax, slowly melting away as time passes. The glacier beneath them also gradually melts into water, symbolizing the alarming rate at which the Arctic is warming - twice as fast as the global average.

The polar bear models are made of wax. The base of the artwork is painted with thermochromic pigment, which changes from white to blue as a heat source is activated, further emphasising the impact of global warming on this fragile ecosystem. When the wax is melting, the dripping sound also imitates the ticking sound of a countdown timer.

How much time do we have left before it is too late? What else can we do to stop the countdown?
